2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata — battery dies after the car sits for a weekend

2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club, about 39,500 miles. Battery passes a quick test and charging voltage looks normal, but after two or three days parked the car sometimes will not crank. What is the cleanest parasitic-draw test on a modern car that takes time to go to sleep?

I went back under the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata and it only happens after a heat soak, not on a cold start. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Yes, with one caveat: Capture voltage while the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “5 miata — battery dies after the,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.

It did 5 miata — battery dies after the twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. Only after sitting overnight so far.

Ask what changed right before it started. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. Heat soak after errands is the other window.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. Save the big job until that test fails. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Asking because it changes the advice: A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata is losing coolant with no puddle. Save the big job until that test fails. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

I'd push back a little: Two 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miatas can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. That's the branch I'd chase this week. This is from a 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata in San Diego with 39,500 miles. Did the worksheet show tax yet? Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Two 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miatas can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. Save the big job until that test fails. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. Checking again after work.

Log the conditions before you spend. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “5 miata — battery dies after the,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the sequence I'd use. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Quick add on that: Move a coil or plug on the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “5 miata — battery dies after the,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Just my two cents from doing this recently. I keep a notes app thread for this now.

Not convinced that's the whole story. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. That's the branch I'd chase this week. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Asking because it changes the advice: Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata and see if the fault moves. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Was this after sitting overnight? Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata does it — then decide on parts. That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata is losing coolant with no puddle. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I'll poke at it this weekend.

Quick add on that: Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata does it — then decide on parts. Save the big job until that test fails. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.
