Fast charging slows down earlier than it used to

ColdStartRunner19Community StarterSep 2, 20262024 Rivian R1S Dual-MotorNew York
2024 Rivian R1S Dual-Motor, about 14,500 miles. On road trips the car used to hold a higher charge rate longer. Now it starts tapering sooner even when the pack is warm. Could this be charger-side variation, battery temperature, software, or an actual battery-health issue? Appreciate any ideas on what to check first.

I went back under the 2024 Rivian R1S and it only happens after a heat soak, not on a cold start. Checking again after work.

I'd treat 12V warnings as a no-ignore. On the 2024 Rivian R1S, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. Then you'll know the next fork. On “fast charging slows down earlier than it,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I already checked the easy fluid levels.

This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Agree — and I'd add this: Leave the alerts on the 2024 Rivian R1S so service can see what you saw. I'd do that before spending real money. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Low-voltage gremlins will strand you even with a full pack. Try a second charger before blaming the 2024 Rivian R1S — site sharing and pack temp change the curve a lot. I'd do that before spending real money. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Don't clear the alert just to make the screen pretty. Leave the alerts on the 2024 Rivian R1S so service can see what you saw. That's where I'd start. Do that first. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Checked the easy stuff on the 2024 Rivian R1S and found one clue worth chasing before I book a shop. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.

It did fast charging slows down earlier than it twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. I keep a notes app thread for this now.

Charge curves lie if you don't match starting SOC and temp. Match starting SOC and battery temp if you're comparing 2024 Rivian R1S charge sessions. Then you'll know the next fork. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Quick add on that: On the 2024 Rivian R1S, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. I'd do that before spending real money. On “fast charging slows down earlier than it,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Stop there until you know. If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. Doing the boring step first on purpose.
