2024 Mitsubishi Outlander — should I tell the dealer I am paying cash up front? — second opinion before I spend money

FlatSixDailyCommunity StarterJul 26, 20262024 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV SELColumbus
2024 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV SEL, about 18,500 miles. I do not need financing, but I keep hearing conflicting advice about when to mention that. I mostly want a clean transaction. Does payment method really change how you should negotiate vehicle price? Interested in real owner experience more than guesses.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “should i tell the dealer i am,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. In Columbus, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander comparison for me more than the sale price did. Then the comparison gets honest. Do that first. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

If I were shopping this, if one piece looks too good on the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Then the comparison gets honest. Stop there until you know. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Stop there until you know. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander numbers without them. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “should i tell the dealer i am,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. That's my plan before I call anyone.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Then the comparison gets honest. This is from a 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander in Columbus with 18,500 miles. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Agree — and I'd add this: Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. If they balk, that's your answer. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. Sleeping on the number either way.

I would not stare at the monthly. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Quick add on that: Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. If they balk, that's your answer. When does it actually happen? I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.
