2024 Subaru WRX — car died once at a light and restarted immediately

HighwayDIYerCommunity StarterJun 14, 20262024 Subaru WRX PremiumSalt Lake City
2024 Subaru WRX Premium, about 31,500 miles. The engine shut off at a stop once, restarted right away, and has been normal since. No warning stayed on. What data or checks would you prioritize before trusting it on a long trip?

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 Subaru WRX, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Asking because it changes the advice: Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2024 Subaru WRX does it — then decide on parts. Save the big job until that test fails. This is from a 2024 Subaru WRX in Salt Lake City with 31,500 miles. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. Not driving it hard until I know more.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2024 Subaru WRX does it — then decide on parts. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

If it were in my driveway, loaded-suspension checks on the 2024 Subaru WRX catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. This is from a 2024 Subaru WRX in Salt Lake City with 31,500 miles. That's the sequence I'd use. I'll poke at it this weekend.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 Subaru WRX, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. Save the big job until that test fails. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Ask what changed right before it started. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2024 Subaru WRX, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Two 2024 Subaru WRXs can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Not driving it hard until I know more.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Subaru WRX and see if the fault moves. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “car died once at a light and,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the sequence I'd use. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

Log the conditions before you spend. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2024 Subaru WRX does it — then decide on parts. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “car died once at a light and,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Stop there until you know. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2024 Subaru WRX does it — then decide on parts. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I'll poke at it this weekend.

If it were in my driveway, swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Subaru WRX and see if the fault moves. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I'd rather be boring and correct. I'll poke at it this weekend.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Capture voltage while the 2024 Subaru WRX is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. On “car died once at a light and,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2024 Subaru WRX in Salt Lake City with 31,500 miles. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.

Asking because it changes the advice: Move a coil or plug on the 2024 Subaru WRX if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Stop there until you know. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

I went back under the 2024 Subaru WRX and it only happens after a heat soak, not on a cold start. Only after sitting overnight so far.
