2025 Honda Civic Sport Touring Hybrid — no crank, lights work, then it suddenly starts

Twice this month I turned the key/button and got lights but no crank. After trying again a few minutes later it started normally. Battery connections look clean. Starter relay, brake switch, starter itself, or something else? If I fix it I'll come back and update the thread.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Move a coil or plug on the 2025 Honda Civic if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. This is from a 2025 Honda Civic in Denver / Front Range. Stop there until you know. Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. Heat soak after errands is the other window.

Asking because it changes the advice: Two 2025 Honda Civics can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Monthly payment math is how wallets disappear. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

I went back under the 2025 Honda Civic and it only happens after a heat soak, not on a cold start. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2025 Honda Civic does it — then decide on parts. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. If it were in my driveway, if a shop can't duplicate it on the 2025 Honda Civic, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Quick add on that: Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2025 Honda Civic and see if the fault moves. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. On “no crank, lights work, then it suddenly,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2025 Honda Civic in Denver / Front Range. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.
