Can I go one inch smaller for winter wheels?

Looking at a smaller-diameter winter setup for more sidewall. Main concern is brake clearance and keeping total tire diameter close. What measurements do you verify before ordering? If I fix it I'll come back and update the thread.

I parked the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata and wrote down what I already tested so I'm not repeating myself. Heat soak after errands is the other window.

I'd pick the setup I'll actually live with in slush. If Nationwide only sees a few real storms, a good all-weather on the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata can be the saner daily. That's where I'd start. On “can i go one inch smaller for,” that was the fork that mattered for me. The universe charges extra for guessing. If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.
