CPO luxury SUV or brand-new mainstream SUV?

QuattroCollectorCommunity StarterDec 16, 20252021 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300Portland
2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300, about 118,000 miles. Budget works for either a lightly used luxury SUV or a new mainstream model with a full warranty. I'm more worried about three-to-five-year ownership cost and service downtime than the purchase price. How would you compare them? If I fix it I'll come back and update the thread.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. A written buyer’s order on the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” If they balk, that's your answer. On “new mainstream suv,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Then the comparison gets honest. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

OP here. Still looking, but I'm waiting on inspection notes before I send money on the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “new mainstream suv,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC in Portland with 118,000 miles. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. Two 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

Update from me: I finally have sale price, fees, and trade on separate lines for the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. In Portland, insurance quotes flipped a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Call your insurer in Portland before you fall in love with the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I'd rather be boring and correct. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

On “new mainstream suv,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

I asked about new mainstream suv again and they still won't put GAP/add-ons on their own lines. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC numbers without them. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “new mainstream suv,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

If I were shopping this, in Portland, insurance quotes flipped a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. I'll update if anything new shows up.
