Good independent shop for a pre-purchase inspection?

TruckMiles96Community StarterMay 25, 20262021 Honda CR-V EX-LBoston / New England
2021 Honda CR-V EX-L, about 8,200 miles. Looking at a used car locally and want a genuinely independent PPI, preferably someone familiar with this brand. What do you ask the shop to include besides a basic scan and lift inspection? If I fix it I'll come back and update the thread. What am I missing?

I'd slow the salesperson down here. In Boston / New England, insurance quotes flipped a 2021 Honda CR-V comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2021 Honda CR-V numbers without them. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “purchase inspection,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Ask for out-the-door on the 2021 Honda CR-V with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “purchase inspection,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2021 Honda CR-V in Boston / New England with 8,200 miles. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Quick add on that: Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2021 Honda CR-V so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. When does it actually happen? Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2021 Honda CR-V and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Then the comparison gets honest. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2021 Honda CR-V price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.
