Need advice: Payload sticker changed my whole truck-shopping plan

I was focused on tow rating until I started adding passengers, gear and tongue weight. Now payload looks like the real limit. How much buffer do you personally leave for a family towing setup? Any data points from owners would help.

I'd keep this practical. Verify the cheap/easy branch on the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 before a big repair or a big spend. Then you'll know the next fork. Parts cannon is a personality type I try to avoid. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.
