Would you pay more for documentation than lower mileage?

JDMScoutCommunity StarterApr 18, 20262022 Honda Accord 2.0T SportDMV / Maryland
2022 Honda Accord 2.0T Sport, about 62,000 miles. Comparing two older enthusiast cars: one has lower mileage but thin history, the other has higher mileage with years of invoices and owner notes. Assuming both inspect well, how much value do you put on records? Appreciate any ideas on what to check first.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. A written buyer’s order on the 2022 Honda Accord is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “would you pay more for documentation than,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Monthly payment math is how wallets disappear. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. If one piece looks too good on the 2022 Honda Accord, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Ask for out-the-door on the 2022 Honda Accord with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. The universe charges extra for guessing. Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

I would not stare at the monthly. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2022 Honda Accord price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. Monthly payment math is how wallets disappear. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

Agree — and I'd add this: Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2022 Honda Accord so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “would you pay more for documentation than,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Monthly payment math is how wallets disappear. If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. That's my plan before I call anyone.

I'd push back a little: If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2022 Honda Accord price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. The universe charges extra for guessing. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2022 Honda Accord so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “would you pay more for documentation than,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Monthly payment math is how wallets disappear. That's my plan before I call anyone.

If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

I'd push back a little: If one piece looks too good on the 2022 Honda Accord, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

If I were shopping this, in DMV / Maryland, insurance quotes flipped a 2022 Honda Accord comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2022 Honda Accord in DMV / Maryland with 62,000 miles. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Walked a dealership this week on the 2022 Honda Accord (62,000 miles) and the doc fee was the tell. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.
