1970 Datsun 240Z — steering wheel vibration only at one highway speed — buyer question from Baltimore

This started as a small annoyance and I finally decided to track it down. 1970 Datsun 240Z, about 258,000 miles. The car is smooth around town, but there is a noticeable steering-wheel vibration in a narrow highway speed range. It gets better again above that speed. Tires look normal at a glance. What would you test first before replacing anything? I am in Baltimore.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Loaded-suspension checks on the 1970 Datsun 240Z catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “steering wheel vibration only at one highway,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

Ask what changed right before it started. Loaded-suspension checks on the 1970 Datsun 240Z catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. No need to make it theatrical. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.
