2024 Volkswagen Golf R — metallic rattle for a few seconds after cold start

There is a short metallic rattle after the first cold start of the day, then it disappears once the engine settles. Warm restarts are quiet.

If it were in my driveway, a pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Volkswagen Golf R is losing coolant with no puddle. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. This is from a 2024 Volkswagen Golf R in Denver. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Quick add on that: Capture voltage while the 2024 Volkswagen Golf R is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.

It did metallic rattle for a few seconds after twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. Only after sitting overnight so far.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Volkswagen Golf R and see if the fault moves. Save the big job until that test fails. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. I'll update if anything new shows up.

OP update: scanned the 2024 Volkswagen Golf R again and still only have the one pending code, no new lights. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Move a coil or plug on the 2024 Volkswagen Golf R if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Save the big job until that test fails. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Heat soak after errands is the other window.

If it were in my driveway, get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 Volkswagen Golf R, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. That's the sequence I'd use. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.
