1990 Ford F-150 — square wheel setup on a car that came staggered

This started as a small annoyance and I finally decided to track it down. 1990 Ford F-150 XLT, about 253,500 miles. I am considering a square wheel/tire setup so I can rotate tires and simplify track spares. Besides clearance, what handling changes should I expect?

If it were mine, I would verify the cheap/easy branch on the 1990 Ford F-150 before committing to a big repair.
