2004 Honda S2000 — cheap project has enough margin to fix and resell?

LongMilesCamper362Community StarterJul 12, 20262004 Honda S2000Miami
2004 Honda S2000, about 64,000 miles. I found a running car with cosmetic damage and deferred maintenance at a low price. Before treating it as a flip, how do you budget hidden repairs, title/registration, taxes, transport and selling time?

Get the messy numbers in writing first. Call your insurer in Miami before you fall in love with the 2004 Honda S2000. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “cheap project has enough margin to fix,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. That's my plan before I call anyone.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2004 Honda S2000 price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' I'll update if anything new shows up.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Call your insurer in Miami before you fall in love with the 2004 Honda S2000. Do that before you talk monthly again. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2004 Honda S2000 so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. If they balk, that's your answer. On “cheap project has enough margin to fix,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I screenshotted the quote for later.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. In Miami, insurance quotes flipped a 2004 Honda S2000 comparison for me more than the sale price did. Then the comparison gets honest. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. In Miami, insurance quotes flipped a 2004 Honda S2000 comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

On “cheap project has enough margin to fix,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the whole play. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Call your insurer in Miami before you fall in love with the 2004 Honda S2000. If they balk, that's your answer. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

I would not stare at the monthly. In Miami, insurance quotes flipped a 2004 Honda S2000 comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2004 Honda S2000 in Miami with 64,000 miles. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.
