2012 Honda Pilot — surface rust underneath a winter daily

2012 Honda Pilot EX-L, about 145,000 miles. There is early surface rust on brackets, fasteners and seams underneath, but nothing structural. For a salt-belt car, what treatment slows it down without creating a hard coating that traps moisture? I am in New York.

I'd pick the setup I'll actually live with in slush. Watch brake clearance and overall diameter if you downsize winter wheels on the 2012 Honda Pilot. Then you'll know the next fork. Was this after sitting overnight? Doing the boring step first on purpose.

I'd pick the setup I'll actually live with in slush. In New York, dedicated winters on the 2012 Honda Pilot paid off more than I expected on ice, even on plowed roads. Then you'll know the next fork. On “surface rust underneath a winter daily,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Heat soak after errands is the other window.

Quick add on that: If New York only sees a few real storms, a good all-weather on the 2012 Honda Pilot can be the saner daily. That's where I'd start. On “surface rust underneath a winter daily,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Stop there until you know. If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

I parked the 2012 Honda Pilot and wrote down what I already tested so I'm not repeating myself. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.
