2024 Tesla Model Y — surface rust underneath a winter daily

CommuterDetailerCommunity StarterSep 4, 20262024 Tesla Model Y Long RangeHouston
2024 Tesla Model Y Long Range, about 8,000 miles. There is early surface rust on brackets, fasteners and seams underneath, but nothing structural. For a salt-belt car, what treatment slows it down without creating a hard coating that traps moisture?

I'd treat 12V warnings as a no-ignore. On the 2024 Tesla Model Y, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. I'd do that before spending real money. On “surface rust underneath a winter daily,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Do that first. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Low-voltage gremlins will strand you even with a full pack. Try a second charger before blaming the 2024 Tesla Model Y — site sharing and pack temp change the curve a lot. I'd do that before spending real money. Just my two cents from doing this recently. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Quick add on that: Leave the alerts on the 2024 Tesla Model Y so service can see what you saw. I'd do that before spending real money. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

Charge curves lie if you don't match starting SOC and temp. Match starting SOC and battery temp if you're comparing 2024 Tesla Model Y charge sessions. That's where I'd start. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Heat soak after errands is the other window.
