2013 Infiniti G37 — safest way to handle a test drive with a stranger

WrenchCollector59Community StarterJun 8, 20262013 Infiniti G37 xSBoston
2013 Infiniti G37 xS, about 166,500 miles. I am selling privately for the first time. I want serious buyers to drive the car but do not want to be careless with keys, insurance, license info or where we meet. What is a sensible process? If I figure it out I will update the thread.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. Independent PPI on the 2013 Infiniti G37 is cheap insurance versus a seller who “already had a friend look at it.” That's where I'd start. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Title status is the whole conversation. If the 2013 Infiniti G37 still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. Then you'll know the next fork. That's the sequence I'd use. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

OP here. Still looking, but I'm waiting on inspection notes before I send money on the 2013 Infiniti G37. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. Meet at a bank or dealer title office for the 2013 Infiniti G37, not a parking lot at night. That's where I'd start. Stop there until you know. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. Meet at a bank or dealer title office for the 2013 Infiniti G37, not a parking lot at night. I'd do that before spending real money. This is from a 2013 Infiniti G37 in Boston with 166,500 miles. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Title status is the whole conversation. Bill of sale, VIN, odometer, and names matching the title — I'd want all four on the 2013 Infiniti G37. That's where I'd start. Do that first. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

On “safest way to handle a test drive,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the whole play. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I screenshotted the quote for later.

Don't get cute with the meetup or the payment. Meet at a bank or dealer title office for the 2013 Infiniti G37, not a parking lot at night. I'd do that before spending real money. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

I'd treat this like cash with a paper trail. A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2013 Infiniti G37 is enough reason to walk. That's where I'd start. On “safest way to handle a test drive,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2013 Infiniti G37 in Boston with 166,500 miles. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

I asked about safest way to handle a test drive again and they still won't put GAP/add-ons on their own lines. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2013 Infiniti G37 and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

Update from me: I finally have sale price, fees, and trade on separate lines for the 2013 Infiniti G37. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Don't get cute with the meetup or the payment. If the 2013 Infiniti G37 still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. That's where I'd start. No need to make it theatrical. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.
