2013 Nissan 370Z — private seller still has a loan on the car

2013 Nissan 370Z Touring, about 118,000 miles. I like a privately listed car, but the seller still owes money and does not have a clear paper title in hand. What is the safest way to handle payoff, lien release, payment and possession? I am trying to get the facts straight before spending money.

Title status is the whole conversation. If the 2013 Nissan 370Z still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. Then you'll know the next fork. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. Independent PPI on the 2013 Nissan 370Z is cheap insurance versus a seller who “already had a friend look at it.” Then you'll know the next fork. No need to make it theatrical. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

Don't get cute with the meetup or the payment. Meet at a bank or dealer title office for the 2013 Nissan 370Z, not a parking lot at night. I'd do that before spending real money. This is from a 2013 Nissan 370Z in Orange County with 118,000 miles. No need to make it theatrical. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

I'd treat this like cash with a paper trail. Independent PPI on the 2013 Nissan 370Z is cheap insurance versus a seller who “already had a friend look at it.” That's where I'd start. On “private seller still has a loan on,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2013 Nissan 370Z is enough reason to walk. I'd do that before spending real money. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.
