2015 Volkswagen Golf — should I negotiate the trade and purchase separately?

TrackWeekend267Community StarterJun 30, 20262015 Volkswagen Golf TDICalifornia
2015 Volkswagen Golf TDI, about 65,000 miles. I have a trade with some equity and I am buying another car. Dealer wants to talk only in payment numbers. Would you settle sale price first, then trade value, then financing so each piece stays visible? Mostly looking for the right next step.

If I were shopping this, two 2015 Volkswagen Golf quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Then the comparison gets honest. No need to make it theatrical. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Ask for out-the-door on the 2015 Volkswagen Golf with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. Sleeping on the number either way.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. If one piece looks too good on the 2015 Volkswagen Golf, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. No need to make it theatrical. Make the next action something you can finish this week. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2015 Volkswagen Golf price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Yes, with one caveat: GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2015 Volkswagen Golf numbers without them. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “should i negotiate the trade and purchase,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.
