2016 Subaru WRX — rolling negative equity into another car

SunBeltDad163Community StarterApr 16, 20262016 Subaru WRX STIChicago
Current car is worth less than the payoff and I need something different. Dealer says they can roll the difference into the new loan. I am trying to understand how ugly the math gets before doing that. Interested in real owner experience more than guesses. I am trying not to assume the first explanation I see online.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. Ask for out-the-door on the 2016 Subaru WRX with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. On “rolling negative equity into another car,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

Quick add on that: Call your insurer in Chicago before you fall in love with the 2016 Subaru WRX. If they balk, that's your answer. When does it actually happen? This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. A written buyer’s order on the 2016 Subaru WRX is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. Sleeping on the number either way.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2016 Subaru WRX price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Stop there until you know. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2016 Subaru WRX and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. When does it actually happen? Not wiring anything in the meantime.

Quick add on that: Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2016 Subaru WRX so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. If they balk, that's your answer. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I'd rather be boring and correct. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. Two 2016 Subaru WRX quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

If I were shopping this, if one piece looks too good on the 2016 Subaru WRX, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. That's the part that actually changes the decision. When does it actually happen? I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

On “rolling negative equity into another car,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2016 Subaru WRX in Chicago. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

Quick update: a second 2016 Subaru WRX quote made the first offer look ordinary. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Not convinced that's the whole story. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2016 Subaru WRX and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. I'll update if anything new shows up.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If one piece looks too good on the 2016 Subaru WRX, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Any freeze-frame data saved? I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Ask for out-the-door on the 2016 Subaru WRX with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

If I were shopping this, i would not wire money until I've seen the 2016 Subaru WRX and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Then the comparison gets honest. Was this after sitting overnight? If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

Agree — and I'd add this: Call your insurer in Chicago before you fall in love with the 2016 Subaru WRX. If they balk, that's your answer. On “rolling negative equity into another car,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2016 Subaru WRX in Chicago. Any freeze-frame data saved? If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

I asked about rolling negative equity into another car again and they still won't put GAP/add-ons on their own lines. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

PPI is scheduled. I'm not depositing until I see the 2016 Subaru WRX notes. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

I would not stare at the monthly. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2016 Subaru WRX price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. In Chicago, insurance quotes flipped a 2016 Subaru WRX comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Call your insurer in Chicago before you fall in love with the 2016 Subaru WRX. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “rolling negative equity into another car,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2016 Subaru WRX numbers without them. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. If one piece looks too good on the 2016 Subaru WRX, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I'll update if anything new shows up.
