2016 Subaru WRX — seller asks for a deposit before showing the car

2016 Subaru WRX STI, about 104,000 miles. Private seller says several people are interested and asks for an electronic deposit to hold the car before I can see it. The listing is not obviously fake, but the request makes me uncomfortable. I am in Nationwide. I would rather test this logically than replace parts.

Write down what you already tried. A second data point from another 2016 Subaru WRX owner helps more than a generic diagnosis. I'd do that before spending real money. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

I'd push back a little: If it still isn't clear on the 2016 Subaru WRX, a specialist hour can be cheaper than another round of parts. That's where I'd start. No need to make it theatrical. If the story changes I'll post the new data.
