2017 Nissan Altima 2.5 SV — cPO luxury SUV or brand-new mainstream SUV?

HybridDriver42Community StarterMay 2, 20262017 Nissan Altima 2.5 SVCentral Florida
Budget works for either a lightly used luxury SUV or a new mainstream model with a full warranty. I'm more worried about three-to-five-year ownership cost and service downtime than the purchase price. How would you compare them?

Walked a dealership this week on the 2017 Nissan Altima and the doc fee was the tell. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2017 Nissan Altima and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Call your insurer in Central Florida before you fall in love with the 2017 Nissan Altima. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “cpo luxury suv or brand-new mainstream suv,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Call your insurer in Central Florida before you fall in love with the 2017 Nissan Altima. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “cpo luxury suv or brand-new mainstream suv,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

If I were shopping this, if one piece looks too good on the 2017 Nissan Altima, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2017 Nissan Altima so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. Two 2017 Nissan Altima quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. Two 2017 Nissan Altima quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

Quick update: a second 2017 Nissan Altima quote made the first offer look ordinary. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If one piece looks too good on the 2017 Nissan Altima, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. That's the part that actually changes the decision. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. A written buyer’s order on the 2017 Nissan Altima is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. This is from a 2017 Nissan Altima in Central Florida. Do that first. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.
