2017 Nissan Altima 2.5 SV — steering wheel shakes only under highway braking

JDMRoadieCommunity StarterFeb 24, 20262017 Nissan Altima 2.5 SVNYC / Long Island
No vibration cruising, but braking from highway speed makes the steering wheel shake. Pads still have material. Is rotor thickness variation the usual culprit or should suspension bushings be checked first? Appreciate any ideas on what to check first. What am I missing?

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2017 Nissan Altima, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I'd rather be boring and correct. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2017 Nissan Altima and see if the fault moves. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Stop there until you know. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Asking because it changes the advice: Loaded-suspension checks on the 2017 Nissan Altima catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Save the big job until that test fails. This is from a 2017 Nissan Altima in NYC / Long Island. Do that first. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Not convinced that's the whole story. Move a coil or plug on the 2017 Nissan Altima if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? That's my plan before I call anyone.

Log the conditions before you spend. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2017 Nissan Altima catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “steering wheel shakes only under highway braking,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. If the story changes I'll post the new data.
