2017 Porsche 911 — how do you set a hard auction bid limit?

RoadTraveler73Community StarterMay 25, 20262017 Porsche 911 Carrera SNorth Jersey
2017 Porsche 911 Carrera S, about 138,000 miles. I keep watching cars creep past what I planned because the last few minutes become emotional. How do experienced buyers set a maximum that includes fees, shipping, tax and immediate maintenance? Interested in real owner experience more than guesses.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. Two 2017 Porsche 911 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2017 Porsche 911 in North Jersey with 138,000 miles. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

If I were shopping this, i would not wire money until I've seen the 2017 Porsche 911 and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. That's the whole play. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2017 Porsche 911 numbers without them. If they balk, that's your answer. On “how do you set a hard auction,” that was the fork that mattered for me. When does it actually happen? If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

PPI is scheduled. I'm not depositing until I see the 2017 Porsche 911 notes. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. Ask for out-the-door on the 2017 Porsche 911 with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. On “how do you set a hard auction,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2017 Porsche 911 in North Jersey with 138,000 miles. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2017 Porsche 911 price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. A written buyer’s order on the 2017 Porsche 911 is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. This is from a 2017 Porsche 911 in North Jersey with 138,000 miles. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Walked a dealership this week on the 2017 Porsche 911 (138,000 miles) and the doc fee was the tell. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Fair point. Counterpoint: If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2017 Porsche 911 price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. In North Jersey, insurance quotes flipped a 2017 Porsche 911 comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2017 Porsche 911 in North Jersey with 138,000 miles. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Agree — and I'd add this: Ask for out-the-door on the 2017 Porsche 911 with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “how do you set a hard auction,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the sequence I'd use. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. A written buyer’s order on the 2017 Porsche 911 is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Sleeping on the number either way.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2017 Porsche 911 numbers without them. If they balk, that's your answer. Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2017 Porsche 911 and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Call your insurer in North Jersey before you fall in love with the 2017 Porsche 911. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “how do you set a hard auction,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Quick update: a second 2017 Porsche 911 quote made the first offer look ordinary. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2017 Porsche 911 so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. If they balk, that's your answer. Did the worksheet show tax yet? If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.
