2017 Porsche 911 — surface rust underneath a winter daily

BoostGuy18Community StarterSep 4, 20262017 Porsche 911 Carrera SNew Jersey
There is early surface rust on brackets, fasteners and seams underneath, but nothing structural. For a salt-belt car, what treatment slows it down without creating a hard coating that traps moisture?

I'd pick the setup I'll actually live with in slush. If New Jersey only sees a few real storms, a good all-weather on the 2017 Porsche 911 can be the saner daily. Then you'll know the next fork. On “surface rust underneath a winter daily,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Quick add on that: Watch brake clearance and overall diameter if you downsize winter wheels on the 2017 Porsche 911. That's where I'd start. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. Watch brake clearance and overall diameter if you downsize winter wheels on the 2017 Porsche 911. Then you'll know the next fork. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. Heat soak after errands is the other window.

Not convinced that's the whole story. In New Jersey, dedicated winters on the 2017 Porsche 911 paid off more than I expected on ice, even on plowed roads. I'd do that before spending real money. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

Salt and cold mornings punish cheap shortcuts. If New Jersey only sees a few real storms, a good all-weather on the 2017 Porsche 911 can be the saner daily. I'd do that before spending real money. On “surface rust underneath a winter daily,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2017 Porsche 911 in New Jersey. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I'll poke at it this weekend.

This is a climate question as much as a tire question. Watch brake clearance and overall diameter if you downsize winter wheels on the 2017 Porsche 911. I'd do that before spending real money. When does it actually happen? I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.
