I am doing my first beginner track day and do not care about lap records. Besides fresh brake fluid, enough pad, good tires and torque checks, what is truly necessary versus internet overkill?

I would start here: swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2018 BMW 340i and see if the fault follows.

Small add: if it is cylinder-specific on the 2018 BMW 340i, move a coil or plug and see whether the code follows.

One thing that mattered for me: capture when the 2018 BMW 340i does it — temp, speed, and whether it is in gear — before replacing parts.
