2018 Cadillac CTS-V — short-trip driving and oil-change intervals

DetailDadCommunity StarterJun 23, 20262018 Cadillac CTS-VAustin
2018 Cadillac CTS-V, about 84,000 miles. The car gets lots of cold starts, idling and short trips with few long highway runs. The factory interval feels long for that use. How would you set an interval around duty cycle rather than just the odometer? I would rather test this logically than replace parts.

Ask what changed right before it started. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2018 Cadillac CTS-V is losing coolant with no puddle. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2018 Cadillac CTS-V does it — then decide on parts. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. I already checked the easy fluid levels.

Log the conditions before you spend. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2018 Cadillac CTS-V, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “v — short-trip driving and oil-change intervals,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2018 Cadillac CTS-V in Austin with 84,000 miles. That's the sequence I'd use. Only after sitting overnight so far.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Two 2018 Cadillac CTS-Vs can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Did the worksheet show tax yet? If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

If it were in my driveway, swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2018 Cadillac CTS-V and see if the fault moves. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. This is from a 2018 Cadillac CTS-V in Austin with 84,000 miles. Any freeze-frame data saved? I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. Heat soak after errands is the other window.
