2018 Subaru Forester — is this actually a good used-car deal?

LongMilesDaily160Community StarterMar 30, 20262018 Subaru Forester 2.5iNew York
2018 Subaru Forester 2.5i, about 33,500 miles. The online price looks competitive, but I am trying to judge the entire deal rather than the headline number. What should I compare besides mileage, history, condition and a PPI before deciding what it is worth?

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2018 Subaru Forester so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2018 Subaru Forester and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Then the comparison gets honest. This is from a 2018 Subaru Forester in New York with 33,500 miles. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Make the next action something you can finish this week. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2018 Subaru Forester so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. If they balk, that's your answer. On “is this actually a good used-car deal,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I screenshotted the quote for later.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. In New York, insurance quotes flipped a 2018 Subaru Forester comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.
