2021 Honda CR-V — tires or pads first for a beginner autocross season?

2021 Honda CR-V EX-L, about 52,000 miles. Budget allows one meaningful upgrade. Current street tires are decent and brakes are standard replacements. Which upgrade helps a new driver learn more before adding other parts? I am in Connecticut. Mostly looking for the right next step. What would you check next?

Don't overfit one forum story to your car. If it still isn't clear on the 2021 Honda CR-V, a specialist hour can be cheaper than another round of parts. Then you'll know the next fork. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. If the story changes I'll post the new data.
