2021 Lexus ES — 50,000-mile ownership report: what actually broke? — second opinion before I spend money

HybridDetailer348Community StarterJul 21, 20262021 Lexus ES 350Nashville
I just crossed 50k miles and want to log maintenance, unscheduled repairs, tire life, fuel economy, dealer visits, annoyances and whether I would buy the same car again. If I figure it out I will update the thread.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Call your insurer in Nashville before you fall in love with the 2021 Lexus ES. Do that before you talk monthly again. Stop there until you know. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Agree — and I'd add this: GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2021 Lexus ES numbers without them. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “50,000-mile ownership report: what actually broke? —,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2021 Lexus ES in Nashville. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

I would not stare at the monthly. Two 2021 Lexus ES quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2021 Lexus ES in Nashville. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2021 Lexus ES numbers without them. If they balk, that's your answer. On “50,000-mile ownership report: what actually broke? —,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. A written buyer’s order on the 2021 Lexus ES is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “50,000-mile ownership report: what actually broke? —,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Walked a dealership this week on the 2021 Lexus ES and the doc fee was the tell. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. Two 2021 Lexus ES quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

Update from me: I finally have sale price, fees, and trade on separate lines for the 2021 Lexus ES. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Quick update: a second 2021 Lexus ES quote made the first offer look ordinary. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

I would not stare at the monthly. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2021 Lexus ES price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

If I were shopping this, if one piece looks too good on the 2021 Lexus ES, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Then the comparison gets honest. This is from a 2021 Lexus ES in Nashville. Do that first. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. A written buyer’s order on the 2021 Lexus ES is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I'd rather be boring and correct. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Ask for out-the-door on the 2021 Lexus ES with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “50,000-mile ownership report: what actually broke? —,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. Two 2021 Lexus ES quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Then the comparison gets honest. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

I'd push back a little: If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2021 Lexus ES price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Do that first. I'll update if anything new shows up.

If I were shopping this, in Nashville, insurance quotes flipped a 2021 Lexus ES comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. Two 2021 Lexus ES quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.
