2021 Tesla Model S — long crank only after filling the fuel tank

UsedCarHauler419Community StarterJun 13, 20262021 Tesla Model S Long RangeQueens
2021 Tesla Model S Long Range, about 66,500 miles. The car starts normally most of the time, but after filling the tank it occasionally cranks longer and runs rough for a few seconds. Could EVAP/purge behavior cause this, and what would you test? I am in Queens. Interested in real owner experience more than guesses.

Cleared nothing. I want service to see the alert on the 2021 Tesla Model S first. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Charge curves lie if you don't match starting SOC and temp. Match starting SOC and battery temp if you're comparing 2021 Tesla Model S charge sessions. Then you'll know the next fork. Just my two cents from doing this recently. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. On the 2021 Tesla Model S, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. I'd do that before spending real money. On “long crank only after filling the fuel,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2021 Tesla Model S in Queens with 66,500 miles. That's the sequence I'd use. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

Asking because it changes the advice: Try a second charger before blaming the 2021 Tesla Model S — site sharing and pack temp change the curve a lot. Then you'll know the next fork. No need to make it theatrical. Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

It did long crank only after filling the fuel twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. Checking again after work.

Don't clear the alert just to make the screen pretty. Leave the alerts on the 2021 Tesla Model S so service can see what you saw. That's where I'd start. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. That's my plan before I call anyone.

I went back under the 2021 Tesla Model S and it only happens after a heat soak, not on a cold start. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. Try a second charger before blaming the 2021 Tesla Model S — site sharing and pack temp change the curve a lot. That's where I'd start. Do that first. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.

I'd treat 12V warnings as a no-ignore. On the 2021 Tesla Model S, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. Then you'll know the next fork. On “long crank only after filling the fuel,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Low-voltage gremlins will strand you even with a full pack. Try a second charger before blaming the 2021 Tesla Model S — site sharing and pack temp change the curve a lot. That's where I'd start. Any freeze-frame data saved? Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. Checking again after work.
