2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 — how are owners measuring real battery degradation?

ProjectGeekCommunity StarterApr 17, 20262023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 LimitedOrange County
2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited, about 47,000 miles. Displayed range moves too much with weather and recent driving to be a useful health metric by itself. What repeatable measurements do you trust for tracking battery degradation over time? I am in Orange County. I am trying not to assume the first explanation I see online.

Log the conditions before you spend. Move a coil or plug on the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “how are owners measuring real battery degradation,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. Not driving it hard until I know more.

It did how are owners measuring real battery degradation twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Capture voltage while the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Save the big job until that test fails. On “how are owners measuring real battery degradation,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

If it were in my driveway, capture voltage while the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Save the big job until that test fails. That's the sequence I'd use. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. Move a coil or plug on the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Trying not to diagnose from the couch.

Yes, with one caveat: Two 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is losing coolant with no puddle. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

Ask what changed right before it started. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. That's the branch I'd chase this week. This is from a 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 in Orange County with 47,000 miles. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. I'd rather pay for diagnosis than a second guess-repair.

I went back under the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 and it only happens after a heat soak, not on a cold start. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “how are owners measuring real battery degradation,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the whole play. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

OP here — recorded a short video and noted speed, temp, and whether it was in gear. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.

Checked the easy stuff on the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 and found one clue worth chasing before I book a shop. Only after sitting overnight so far.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 and see if the fault moves. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is losing coolant with no puddle. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. This is the version I'd tell a friend.
