Someone interested in my car insists I buy a report from a specific unfamiliar website before they will meet. Is this a common scam pattern and what information should I avoid entering? I am in Houston. What would you check next?

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: A written buyer’s order on the 2023 Jeep Wrangler is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “buyer sends a vehicle-history website i have,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2023 Jeep Wrangler in Houston. That's the sequence I'd use. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

PPI is scheduled. I'm not depositing until I see the 2023 Jeep Wrangler notes. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. A written buyer’s order on the 2023 Jeep Wrangler is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” Do that before you talk monthly again. On “buyer sends a vehicle-history website i have,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

Yes, with one caveat: Call your insurer in Houston before you fall in love with the 2023 Jeep Wrangler. If they balk, that's your answer. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Not convinced that's the whole story. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2023 Jeep Wrangler and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2023 Jeep Wrangler in Houston. That's the whole play. If the story changes I'll post the new data.
