2023 Subaru Outback — would you buy an ex-rental car at the right price?

A former rental is cheaper than privately owned examples and has frequent service records. Cosmetics show normal wear. What extra inspection points matter because of rental use? I am in NYC.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. Two 2023 Subaru Outback quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Was this after sitting overnight? That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

Agree — and I'd add this: A written buyer’s order on the 2023 Subaru Outback is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” Do that before you talk monthly again. That's the whole play. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. Ask for out-the-door on the 2023 Subaru Outback with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. On “would you buy an ex-rental car at,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2023 Subaru Outback and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2023 Subaru Outback in NYC. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2023 Subaru Outback price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2023 Subaru Outback in NYC. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2023 Subaru Outback numbers without them. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “would you buy an ex-rental car at,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2023 Subaru Outback in NYC. Stop there until you know. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2023 Subaru Outback and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. A written buyer’s order on the 2023 Subaru Outback is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” If they balk, that's your answer. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.
