2024 Acura MDX Type S — need advice: CPO luxury SUV or brand-new mainstream SUV?

QuattroMom77Community StarterApr 1, 20262024 Acura MDX Type SAtlanta
2024 Acura MDX Type S, about 1,200 miles. Budget works for either a lightly used luxury SUV or a new mainstream model with a full warranty. I'm more worried about three-to-five-year ownership cost and service downtime than the purchase price. How would you compare them? I'd rather test this logically than start replacing parts. What am I missing?

I'd slow the salesperson down here. Two 2024 Acura MDX quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Then the comparison gets honest. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2024 Acura MDX so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “need advice: cpo luxury suv or brand-new,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2024 Acura MDX in Atlanta with 1,200 miles. Just my two cents from doing this recently. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. That's my plan before I call anyone.

OP here. Still looking, but I'm waiting on inspection notes before I send money on the 2024 Acura MDX. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Call your insurer in Atlanta before you fall in love with the 2024 Acura MDX. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. Sleeping on the number either way.

If I were shopping this, two 2024 Acura MDX quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Then the comparison gets honest. This is from a 2024 Acura MDX in Atlanta with 1,200 miles. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Acura MDX with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. This is from a 2024 Acura MDX in Atlanta with 1,200 miles. Monthly payment math is how wallets disappear. I'd rather be boring and correct. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. Two 2024 Acura MDX quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Was this after sitting overnight? If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. A written buyer’s order on the 2024 Acura MDX is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” Do that before you talk monthly again. Was this after sitting overnight? Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2024 Acura MDX and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. I screenshotted the quote for later.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2024 Acura MDX and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. The universe charges extra for guessing. If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2024 Acura MDX so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “need advice: cpo luxury suv or brand-new,” that was the fork that mattered for me. The universe charges extra for guessing. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. If one piece looks too good on the 2024 Acura MDX, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2024 Acura MDX in Atlanta with 1,200 miles. That's the whole play. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

I'd push back a little: In Atlanta, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Acura MDX comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2024 Acura MDX in Atlanta with 1,200 miles. Parts cannon is a personality type I try to avoid. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Quick update: a second 2024 Acura MDX quote made the first offer look ordinary. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2024 Acura MDX price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Was this after sitting overnight? I'll update if anything new shows up.

I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Asking because it changes the advice: In Atlanta, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Acura MDX comparison for me more than the sale price did. Then the comparison gets honest. Just my two cents from doing this recently. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Agree — and I'd add this: Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Acura MDX with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. Sleeping on the number either way.
