2024 BMW i4 — conservative tune feels great — what should I log? — buyer question from Washington DC

MarketHauler673Community StarterApr 15, 20262024 BMW i4 eDrive40Washington DC
2024 BMW i4 eDrive40, about 31,500 miles. I do not want to judge a tune only by how fast the car feels. Which parameters are worth logging periodically if the goal is catching fuel, knock, boost or temperature problems early? I would rather test this logically than replace parts.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Move a coil or plug on the 2024 BMW i4 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Save the big job until that test fails. On “conservative tune feels great — what should,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I'll poke at it this weekend.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 BMW i4, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. That's the whole play. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Same neighborhood, different next step: Get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 BMW i4, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Was this after sitting overnight? Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Not convinced that's the whole story. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2024 BMW i4 catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. That's the branch I'd chase this week. That's the whole play. That's my plan before I call anyone.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Two 2024 BMW i4s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Make the next action something you can finish this week. Checking again after work.

Log the conditions before you spend. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2024 BMW i4, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “conservative tune feels great — what should,” that was the fork that mattered for me. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Capture voltage while the 2024 BMW i4 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. No need to make it theatrical. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

If it were in my driveway, get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 BMW i4, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. That's my plan before I call anyone.

OP update: scanned the 2024 BMW i4 again and still only have the one pending code, no new lights. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.

Ask what changed right before it started. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 BMW i4 and see if the fault moves. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Do that first. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.
