2024 Chevrolet Corvette — dealer APR is higher than my credit-union preapproval — Portland owner

ApexGarage956Community StarterFeb 20, 20262024 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51Portland
2024 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51, about 46,500 miles. I have a preapproval in hand and the dealer offered a higher rate. Is there any reason to let them try to beat it, and how should I compare lender fees or incentives instead of only APR?

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. In Portland, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Chevrolet Corvette comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Update from me: I finally have sale price, fees, and trade on separate lines for the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Quick add on that: A written buyer’s order on the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” If they balk, that's your answer. On “dealer apr is higher than my credit-union,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. That's the whole play. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. In Portland, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Chevrolet Corvette comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Did the worksheet show tax yet? I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Yes, with one caveat: Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. Call your insurer in Portland before you fall in love with the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette. If they balk, that's your answer. On “dealer apr is higher than my credit-union,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Do that first. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Stop there until you know. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. Do that before you talk monthly again. This is from a 2024 Chevrolet Corvette in Portland with 46,500 miles. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. If they balk, that's your answer. On “dealer apr is higher than my credit-union,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

Stop there until you know. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

Asking because it changes the advice: If one piece looks too good on the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

OP here. Still looking, but I'm waiting on inspection notes before I send money on the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “dealer apr is higher than my credit-union,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I screenshotted the quote for later.
