2024 Ford Mustang — a/C is cold on the highway but warm at stoplights

RustBeltGalCommunity StarterJul 20, 20262024 Ford Mustang GTSeattle
2024 Ford Mustang GT, about 25,000 miles. The A/C works well with road speed but gets noticeably warmer at long lights, then cools again almost immediately once moving. Does that point more toward airflow/fan behavior than refrigerant level? If I figure it out I will update the thread.

It did a/c is cold on the highway but twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

Tried a second charger / second scan and the story on the 2024 Ford Mustang didn't change. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Ask what changed right before it started. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Ford Mustang and see if the fault moves. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2024 Ford Mustang catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Just my two cents from doing this recently. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2024 Ford Mustang catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “a/c is cold on the highway but,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

Not convinced that's the whole story. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2024 Ford Mustang does it — then decide on parts. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Did the worksheet show tax yet? That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Yes, with one caveat: Get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 Ford Mustang, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. That's the branch I'd chase this week. That's the whole play. I'll poke at it this weekend.

I keep a notes app thread for this now.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 Ford Mustang, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

Log the conditions before you spend. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Ford Mustang is losing coolant with no puddle. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “a/c is cold on the highway but,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

I'd push back a little: If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2024 Ford Mustang, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. This is from a 2024 Ford Mustang in Seattle with 25,000 miles. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Move a coil or plug on the 2024 Ford Mustang if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.
