2024 Ford Mustang — buyer sends a vehicle-history website I have never heard of

TrackWeekend267Community StarterJun 15, 20262024 Ford Mustang GTDallas
Someone interested in my car insists I buy a report from a specific unfamiliar website before they will meet. Is this a common scam pattern and what information should I avoid entering?

I'd slow the salesperson down here. In Dallas, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Ford Mustang comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

Yes, with one caveat: Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2024 Ford Mustang so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “buyer sends a vehicle-history website i have,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. That's my plan before I call anyone.

OP here. Still looking, but I'm waiting on inspection notes before I send money on the 2024 Ford Mustang. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Ford Mustang with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. Do that before you talk monthly again. Did the worksheet show tax yet? Sleeping on the number either way.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2024 Ford Mustang so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. If they balk, that's your answer. That's the sequence I'd use. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. If one piece looks too good on the 2024 Ford Mustang, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If one piece looks too good on the 2024 Ford Mustang, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Agree — and I'd add this: Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Ford Mustang with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “buyer sends a vehicle-history website i have,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. In Dallas, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Ford Mustang comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. No need to make it theatrical. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: A written buyer’s order on the 2024 Ford Mustang is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “buyer sends a vehicle-history website i have,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the sequence I'd use. If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Quick add on that: Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Ford Mustang with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2024 Ford Mustang price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Not convinced that's the whole story. If one piece looks too good on the 2024 Ford Mustang, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

PPI is scheduled. I'm not depositing until I see the 2024 Ford Mustang notes. I'll update if anything new shows up.

If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.
