2024 Ford Mustang — would you buy an ex-rental car at the right price?

PistonBuyer760Community StarterDec 18, 20252024 Ford Mustang GTChicago
A former rental is cheaper than privately owned examples and has frequent service records. Cosmetics show normal wear. What extra inspection points matter because of rental use? I am trying to get the facts straight before spending money. I am trying not to assume the first explanation I see online.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. In Chicago, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Ford Mustang comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. That's the whole play. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Ford Mustang with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

Coming back with numbers — insurance in Chicago changed the 2024 Ford Mustang comparison more than the sale price did. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Same neighborhood, different next step: Call your insurer in Chicago before you fall in love with the 2024 Ford Mustang. Do that before you talk monthly again. This is from a 2024 Ford Mustang in Chicago. That's the sequence I'd use. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

I'd push back a little: In Chicago, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Ford Mustang comparison for me more than the sale price did. Then the comparison gets honest. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Quick update: a second 2024 Ford Mustang quote made the first offer look ordinary. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Quick update: a second 2024 Ford Mustang quote made the first offer look ordinary. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. A written buyer’s order on the 2024 Ford Mustang is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” If they balk, that's your answer. On “would you buy an ex-rental car at,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. In Chicago, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Ford Mustang comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. That's the whole play. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. Two 2024 Ford Mustang quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. When does it actually happen? This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. A written buyer’s order on the 2024 Ford Mustang is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” If they balk, that's your answer. On “would you buy an ex-rental car at,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2024 Ford Mustang in Chicago. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

If I were shopping this, in Chicago, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Ford Mustang comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Ford Mustang with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. Sleeping on the number either way.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. In Chicago, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Ford Mustang comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2024 Ford Mustang numbers without them. Do that before you talk monthly again. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

On “would you buy an ex-rental car at,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

Asking because it changes the advice: If one piece looks too good on the 2024 Ford Mustang, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Then the comparison gets honest. Stop there until you know. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.
