2024 Rivian R1S — going one inch smaller for winter wheels

GarageGal671Community StarterJan 19, 20262024 Rivian R1S Dual-MotorPennsylvania
This started as a small annoyance and I finally decided to track it down. 2024 Rivian R1S Dual-Motor, about 16,000 miles. I want smaller winter wheels for more sidewall. Overall tire diameter can stay close, but I am worried about caliper and spoke clearance. What measurements should be checked before ordering? I am in Pennsylvania.

I'd treat 12V warnings as a no-ignore. On the 2024 Rivian R1S, I'd get the 12V/DC-DC side checked even if the traction pack looks fine. That's where I'd start. On “going one inch smaller for winter wheels,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the sequence I'd use. Not interested in a five-hour wait for a shrug.

Low-voltage gremlins will strand you even with a full pack. Try a second charger before blaming the 2024 Rivian R1S — site sharing and pack temp change the curve a lot. Then you'll know the next fork. Do that first. Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

Charge curves lie if you don't match starting SOC and temp. Match starting SOC and battery temp if you're comparing 2024 Rivian R1S charge sessions. I'd do that before spending real money. This is from a 2024 Rivian R1S in Pennsylvania with 16,000 miles. Do that first. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.

Agree — and I'd add this: Leave the alerts on the 2024 Rivian R1S so service can see what you saw. Then you'll know the next fork. That's the sequence I'd use. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Don't clear the alert just to make the screen pretty. Leave the alerts on the 2024 Rivian R1S so service can see what you saw. Then you'll know the next fork. This is from a 2024 Rivian R1S in Pennsylvania with 16,000 miles. Stop there until you know. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.
