2024 Subaru WRX — what should a real pre-purchase inspection include?

CityDaily186Community StarterDec 24, 20252024 Subaru WRX PremiumPortland
I am paying an independent shop to inspect a used car. Besides a scan and putting it on a lift, what should I ask them to check so it is more than a quick state-inspection-style look?

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2024 Subaru WRX and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Walked a dealership this week on the 2024 Subaru WRX and the doc fee was the tell. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2024 Subaru WRX so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “what should a real pre-purchase inspection include,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the whole play. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2024 Subaru WRX price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2024 Subaru WRX in Portland. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Subaru WRX with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “what should a real pre-purchase inspection include,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Stop there until you know. If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. I screenshotted the quote for later.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Call your insurer in Portland before you fall in love with the 2024 Subaru WRX. If they balk, that's your answer. Do that first. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

I'd push back a little: I would not wire money until I've seen the 2024 Subaru WRX and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. In Portland, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Subaru WRX comparison for me more than the sale price did. Then the comparison gets honest. When does it actually happen? This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Quick add on that: Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Subaru WRX with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “what should a real pre-purchase inspection include,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. Two 2024 Subaru WRX quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Update from me: I finally have sale price, fees, and trade on separate lines for the 2024 Subaru WRX. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2024 Subaru WRX numbers without them. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “what should a real pre-purchase inspection include,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2024 Subaru WRX in Portland. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.
