2024 Tesla Model Y — new tires are much louder than the old set

GarageDaily513Community StarterApr 5, 20262024 Tesla Model Y Long RangeSacramento
This started as a small annoyance and I finally decided to track it down. Same size and pressure, but the new tires create noticeably more highway hum. Is this usually tread pattern/compound, or should I verify balance and alignment before blaming the tire model? If I figure it out I will update the thread.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2024 Tesla Model Y catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. That's the whole play. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Same neighborhood, different next step: Get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 Tesla Model Y, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Not interested in a five-hour wait for a shrug.

Log the conditions before you spend. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2024 Tesla Model Y does it — then decide on parts. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. On “new tires are much louder than the,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. I'll poke at it this weekend.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Two 2024 Tesla Model Ys can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. This is from a 2024 Tesla Model Y in Sacramento. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

OP here — recorded a short video and noted speed, temp, and whether it was in gear. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

If it were in my driveway, move a coil or plug on the 2024 Tesla Model Y if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Ask what changed right before it started. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Tesla Model Y is losing coolant with no puddle. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 Tesla Model Y, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “new tires are much louder than the,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Move a coil or plug on the 2024 Tesla Model Y if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2024 Tesla Model Y does it — then decide on parts. Save the big job until that test fails. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

Agree — and I'd add this: Move a coil or plug on the 2024 Tesla Model Y if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Save the big job until that test fails. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.
