2024 Volkswagen Golf R — question: Driver-assistance camera needs calibration after windshield

TruckTravelerCommunity StarterJul 18, 20262024 Volkswagen Golf RLas Vegas
2024 Volkswagen Golf R, about 22,000 miles. New windshield is in and shop says the camera needs calibration. Car drives fine and no warning is showing. Would you still do the calibration immediately, and does static vs dynamic calibration matter? Appreciate any ideas on what to check first.

I'd wait for the actual TSB/recall population, not the headline. Check whether your 2024 Volkswagen Golf R VIN is actually in the affected batch before you plan a dealer day. Then you'll know the next fork. On “question: driver-assistance camera needs calibration after windshield,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Useful. I'll report back after I verify that on my 2024 Volkswagen Golf R. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Thanks — that narrowed it. I'm going to try the simpler check on the 2024 Volkswagen Golf R first. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Asking because it changes the advice: Check whether your 2024 Volkswagen Golf R VIN is actually in the affected batch before you plan a dealer day. I'd do that before spending real money. Stop there until you know. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Software recalls make me ask how much of 'driving' lives in a module now. If this is a 2027 reveal, I wouldn't map it onto today's 2024 Volkswagen Golf R ownership costs yet. That's where I'd start. This is from a 2024 Volkswagen Golf R in Las Vegas with 22,000 miles. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I'd rather be boring and correct. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

New-model numbers always look better than curb weight and tire size. Check whether your 2024 Volkswagen Golf R VIN is actually in the affected batch before you plan a dealer day. That's where I'd start. On “question: driver-assistance camera needs calibration after windshield,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Monthly payment math is how wallets disappear. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

I parked the 2024 Volkswagen Golf R and wrote down what I already tested so I'm not repeating myself. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

New-model numbers always look better than curb weight and tire size. On a 2024 Volkswagen Golf R, I'd care more about the remedy and downtime than the press wording. I'd do that before spending real money. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.
