Anyone else: Delayed engagement into Drive when cold

On cold mornings, shifting from Park to Drive takes a second or two before the car actually engages. Once warm it's instant and shifts fine. Fluid level/condition is my first thought, but what else should I check? Any data points from owners would help.

If it were in my driveway, get a real battery/charging test on the 2017 Nissan Altima, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Ask what changed right before it started. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2017 Nissan Altima does it — then decide on parts. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. When does it actually happen? If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2017 Nissan Altima is losing coolant with no puddle. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? Wrote this up on my lunch break.

I'd push back a little: Capture voltage while the 2017 Nissan Altima is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Did the worksheet show tax yet? Make the next action something you can finish this week. Not interested in a five-hour wait for a shrug.

OP update: scanned the 2017 Nissan Altima again and still only have the one pending code, no new lights. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Yes, with one caveat: Two 2017 Nissan Altimas can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “delayed engagement into drive when cold,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Did the worksheet show tax yet? Only after sitting overnight so far.
