Anyone else: Fun daily that still works for one-car ownership

I want something I enjoy on back roads but still need to commute, carry luggage and survive bad weather. Trying to avoid buying a car that only makes sense on paper. What compromises have actually mattered after a year? I'd rather test this logically than start replacing parts.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If one piece looks too good on the 2024 Land Rover Defender, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Then the comparison gets honest. Any freeze-frame data saved? If they only talk monthly I'm walking.
