Anyone else: Fun daily that still works for one-car ownership

I want something I enjoy on back roads but still need to commute, carry luggage and survive bad weather. Trying to avoid buying a car that only makes sense on paper. What compromises have actually mattered after a year? I'm in Upstate New York. Appreciate any ideas on what to check first.

I asked about fun daily that still works for one-car again and they still won't put GAP/add-ons on their own lines. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. In Upstate New York, insurance quotes flipped a 2025 Hyundai Tucson comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2025 Hyundai Tucson in Upstate New York. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Quick add on that: Ask for out-the-door on the 2025 Hyundai Tucson with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. Stop there until you know. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.
