Anyone else: G37 runs hot at idle but cools once moving

HybridGarage58Community StarterJul 2, 20262013 Infiniti G37 xSOrange County
Temperature creeps up sitting still and drops once road speed gives it airflow. Fans appear to run, but I haven't checked actual commanded speed. Any good way to diagnose airflow versus coolant circulation without guessing? I'd rather test this logically than start replacing parts.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2013 Infiniti G37 is losing coolant with no puddle. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “g37 runs hot at idle but cools,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Capture voltage while the 2013 Infiniti G37 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Save the big job until that test fails. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Move a coil or plug on the 2013 Infiniti G37 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. The universe charges extra for guessing. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Asking because it changes the advice: Loaded-suspension checks on the 2013 Infiniti G37 catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. When does it actually happen? I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Log the conditions before you spend. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2013 Infiniti G37, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Save the big job until that test fails. On “g37 runs hot at idle but cools,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I already checked the easy fluid levels.

I went back under the 2013 Infiniti G37 and it only happens after a heat soak, not on a cold start. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

OP update: scanned the 2013 Infiniti G37 again and still only have the one pending code, no new lights. Checking again after work.

Log the conditions before you spend. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2013 Infiniti G37, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. Save the big job until that test fails. On “g37 runs hot at idle but cools,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Two 2013 Infiniti G37s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2013 Infiniti G37 does it — then decide on parts. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. This is from a 2013 Infiniti G37 in Orange County. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2013 Infiniti G37, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. That's the branch I'd chase this week. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

Same neighborhood, different next step: Move a coil or plug on the 2013 Infiniti G37 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “g37 runs hot at idle but cools,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Heat soak after errands is the other window.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2013 Infiniti G37 catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. This is from a 2013 Infiniti G37 in Orange County. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Ask what changed right before it started. Two 2013 Infiniti G37s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? Make the next action something you can finish this week. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Agree — and I'd add this: Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2013 Infiniti G37 and see if the fault moves. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. This is from a 2013 Infiniti G37 in Orange County. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I'll poke at it this weekend.
