Anyone else: G37 runs hot at idle but cools once moving

CityEnthusiast92Community StarterJun 23, 20262013 Infiniti G37 xSBoston / New England
2013 Infiniti G37 xS, about 118,000 miles. Temperature creeps up sitting still and drops once road speed gives it airflow. Fans appear to run, but I haven't checked actual commanded speed. Any good way to diagnose airflow versus coolant circulation without guessing? If I fix it I'll come back and update the thread.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2013 Infiniti G37 and see if the fault moves. Save the big job until that test fails. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Move a coil or plug on the 2013 Infiniti G37 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2013 Infiniti G37, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Parts cannon is a personality type I try to avoid. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Agree — and I'd add this: Two 2013 Infiniti G37s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “g37 runs hot at idle but cools,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

If it were in my driveway, loaded-suspension checks on the 2013 Infiniti G37 catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Save the big job until that test fails. This is from a 2013 Infiniti G37 in Boston / New England with 118,000 miles. Did the worksheet show tax yet? If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Two 2013 Infiniti G37s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “g37 runs hot at idle but cools,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2013 Infiniti G37 in Boston / New England with 118,000 miles. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. Not interested in a five-hour wait for a shrug.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2013 Infiniti G37 does it — then decide on parts. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.

It did g37 runs hot at idle but cools twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.
