Anyone else: Porsche Cayman purchase: how much weight do you give a borescope?

TorqueNomadCommunity StarterJul 10, 20262007 Porsche Cayman SNew York
Looking at an older Cayman S with good records. I keep seeing buyers emphasize borescope/PPI work on this generation. For someone vetting listings, what would make you walk away before spending money on a full inspection? I'd rather test this logically than start replacing parts.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. Two 2007 Porsche Cayman quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2007 Porsche Cayman so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “porsche cayman purchase: how much weight do,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2007 Porsche Cayman in New York. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Quick update: a second 2007 Porsche Cayman quote made the first offer look ordinary. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. In New York, insurance quotes flipped a 2007 Porsche Cayman comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2007 Porsche Cayman and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Then the comparison gets honest. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Call your insurer in New York before you fall in love with the 2007 Porsche Cayman. If they balk, that's your answer. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Ask for out-the-door on the 2007 Porsche Cayman with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. Two 2007 Porsche Cayman quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2007 Porsche Cayman and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2007 Porsche Cayman and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2007 Porsche Cayman price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2007 Porsche Cayman so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2007 Porsche Cayman numbers without them. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “porsche cayman purchase: how much weight do,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2007 Porsche Cayman in New York. Monthly payment math is how wallets disappear. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Call your insurer in New York before you fall in love with the 2007 Porsche Cayman. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “porsche cayman purchase: how much weight do,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Parts cannon is a personality type I try to avoid. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.
